5 fun things to do with children while socially distancing 🌻

From toilet paper shortages to school closures to a rapid increase in COVID-19 diagnoses, this last week has really been the longest year ever.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared. I think we all are. (Well, maybe not Tom Hanks. Castaway has shown us he can survive anything.)

Here we were on Saturday morning -- Wolfe, Dino Dad and myself -- working together in the the one-bedroom studio that houses Wolfe and Scamp. We're leaning into an extended spring break, busy packing orders, grateful for the opportunity.

There are so many things swirling through my head right now about this unprecedented situation, but for now, what I really need to say is: thank you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for the continued support of my small, handmade brand. It means everything.

Because things went fruitbasket turnover last week, we are switching up some things, like retooling our preorder plans to be ready-to-ship, so that you can receive your items more quickly.

Children need opportunities to imagine and have adventures, especially during times like these, and W+S moms will tell you that becoming a dinosaur and roaring into the void helps.

Our thoughts continue to be with those in high-risk groups, the elderly and immunocompromised. Know that we are taking the necessary public health precautions seriously, and you can trust that we are leaving toilet paper for our neighbors!

If you are worried or afraid or stir crazy with a house full of kids, please know that you are not alone. We are all in this together. That's why I compiled a list of 5 fun things to do while socially distancing to help keep the kiddos entertained and active!

1. Stargaze - but watch out for meteors, dinos!

With families out of work and school, daily schedules have been completely demolished and we don't even know that bedtime ever actually existed or if that's something we dreamed up. So how about taking advantage and enjoying night life - in your backyard! When skies are clear, it's a great time to step outside and gaze up at the night sky, and maybe even use it as an opportunity to teach astronomy to your wee ones!

2. Burst their bubbles

Have a bubble bursting party in your back yard! To make amazing bubbles: mix 2 cups of dish soap, 2 tablespoons of baking powder, 2 tablespoons of corn starch and 4 tablespoons of glycerin in a large bowl. Stir into about half a gallon of water and let sit overnight for best bubbly results.

3. Bring inside toys outside

A super simple way to shake up long days stuck at home is to bring the traditionally "inside toys" outside!

A personal favorite in our house:

Fill a bin with dirt to bury their toys, then spraying them clean with the hose or washing them in another bin with soapy water.

 4. Encourage your kid(s) to become rawrsome graffiti artists

Break out the chalk and let the kids graffiti the side of the house - then hose it down. This supplies hours of entertainment, promise! Alternately if the weather isn't favorable: grab the washable markers & let your kid(s) give themselves some body art, then bath time with a fun bath bomb by Love Yourself Bath Co.

5. Put on a performance

Ask your kiddos to dance, sing or put on a play for you! Let them don their Wolfe and Scamp dino hoodies and Tutu Llamazing Girls tutus, their Love, Lane Designs super hero capes and Crafty Caitie masks and rearrange furniture or hang a sheet in a doorway to make a "stage" for their performance!
